Monique Wins New Zealands "Triple Treble"
We recently received the following from Sam Chambers:
Hey Barry and Ken
My name is Sam and I have been a bearpowered viewer and user for about 9 months now. I am not a track athlete however my partner who I strength train is a sprinter. Her name is Monique Williams and she represents the country of New Zealand.
The reason I am writing this email to you both is because she has had great success this past season (Jan 09 - April 09) while using your ideas and protocols. She has posted personal bests in the 100m (11.64) 200m (22.98 broke 30 year old NZ National Record) and 400m (51.88 .20 off NZ national record) and has done 5 world championship qualifying times. She has also recently topped her NZ season off with another NZ record winning the “triple treble” as posted on the IAAF website (winning the 100m, 200m, 400m three years in a row).
I would like to thank you both for your sprinting expertise which I did not have when I started training her. I have learnt so much just from visiting your website and reading your forum. I look forward to learning more and training her towards Berlin’09:)
Here is some information for you about her strength training. Monique's 1st time doing any strength work, we started in August using the deadlift protocol as the main lift she got up to x1.75 BW. When she started competition she had to travel alot so we maintained these strength gains as much as we could doing gym work 1-2 times a week. From Jan - April she lost weight but maintained strength. During the season Monique has run personal bests in the 100m (11.64), 200m (22.98 NZ Record), 400 (51.88) and has ran 5 qualifying times for the 2009 Berlin World Championships. Monique's previous PB'S 100m (11.71), 200m (23.45), 400m (52.78).
We were very impressed with all of Monique's performances, but the standout performance had to be the 51.88 400m!
Berlin might be in for a big surprise in 2009...
